DontDestroyOnLoad - how to check if object should be destroyed?

I'm starting a WWWRequest Coroutine from the script of a GameObject. Sometimes this is done right before loading another scene, sometimes not. What I want to do is call DontDestroyOnLoad on the object before dispatching the WWWRequest and then check if the object would have been destroyed after the request is complete, so that I can destroy it manually if necessary. How do I do that?
